A spectator shuffles the deck, freely selects any playing card, signs the back without looking at the face, and places it face down inside the borrowed box. The box is then closed, and if desired, secured with adhesive tape before being set aside.

The performer returns, briefly holds the closed box for a few seconds, and correctly reveals the identity of the signed card inside. When the box is opened, the audience discovers that the revealed card matches the signed selection exactly.
